Gene Callan from GBD Architects out of Portland and his college friend Stan Cole from Cole Architects here in Boise join us to discuss downtown housing and sustainable design. Downtown housing was the topic featured at an Urban Land Institute Idaho District Council breakfast event that brought Gene to Boise.
GBD and Cole collaborated on a development proposal for CCDC’s 9th and River property, (they’re proposal wasn’t chosen) and are pursuing other opportunities in downtown Boise together. Gene has extensive experience working with developers in Portland on sustainable projects that create a sense of place and fit in their neighborhood context. Stan is involved with ULI Idaho District Council and has a broad range of design experience from commercial to multifamily housing.
With Boise City’s goal of 1,000 new downtown housing units in the next 5 years we are likely to see a few different housing developments pop up in our community.
Tune in Tuesday, July 22nd for our conversation with Gene and Stan about downtown Boise housing, doing the small things well, and designing sustainable buildings and systems that people can experience and that help create place. We’ll talk about some of GBD’s past and current projects including the EcoDistrict Hassalo on Eighth in Portland.
