Today I speak with Joe Swenson the CEO of NeighborWorks Boise about a new “pocket neighborhood” development in Garden City’s Live-Work-Create District called 36 Oak. NeighborWorks Boise provides housing and services for first time home buyers and is well known for their community service events Rake Up Boise and Paint the Town.
Joe and I will discuss the pocket neighborhood concept and how the design and location of the development and others they have in the works are focused on decreasing the cost of housing and transportation creating healthy families and communities. The “pocket neighborhoods” NeighborWorks Boise is developing have a focus on small footprints, Energy Star certification and HERS ratings, walkability, and shared community spaces.
