Building a Greener Idaho and Eyes on Conservation host Matthew Podolsky team up to interview Carolyn Volk and Karen Viskupic regarding Boise’s GK-12 program. The GK-12 program was made possible with funding from the National Science Foundation and connected Boise State University graduate student fellows with local environmental education facilities including the Foothills Learning Center. This unique program enhanced university/community relations and provided an enthusiastic pool of knowledgeable educators to teach local children about Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) concepts. The partnership with local environmental education centers allowed for learning to take place outside of the classroom setting which helped to spark interest in environmental protection. Carolyn and Karen inform the listener about the legacy from this program and how they are working to reactivate it.
